Dylan

"I made a bargain with it a long time ago. And I'm holding up my end." Asked with whom he had made the bargain, he explained: "With the chief commander. In this earth and in the world we can't see."

Burnt by being hailed in his twenties as a new messiah and hounded by fans who invaded his home - the Woodstock sheriff warned him that if any of the fans camped on his roof fell off, he would be held liable for their injuries - Dylan became a recluse.

His last album, Love and Theft, released four years ago, sold just 7,300 copies until it won a Grammy, when the publicity added another 10,000.

No Direction Home - the Martin Scorcese documentary will be broadcast in Spetember by the BBC. DVD and soundtrack to follow

A compilation of rarities Live at the gaslight 1962 will be available across the counter in Starbuck's coffee shops
