Eddie's Top Fives

Top five albums—hard pressed to think of 5 new albums I’ve bough this year

1. Ben Folds—songs for Silverman---hey I like ben folds—whats wrong with that?!
2. TFC-man-made—v good business as usual
3. Goldfrapp—Supernature-good as dancy as I can get
4. Van morrisson---Magic time---pretty good—why did we not have a public funeral for the death of ‘Foggy’little?
5. Morrissey at earls court---NOT very good
6. 050505-simple minds---no only joking, has anybody bought this?

Top 5 reissues-only 1 I know would count as a reissue in 2005

1. Bob Dylan no direction home—excellent---‘ I do not believe you---you are a LIAR’

Remaining favourite old albums I bought this year:

2. Kate bush-- Hounds of Love—not much screeching on this record. fave KB album AND contains a song about people making weather machines and then being abducted by the government—Brian, Im sure this has been a Doctor Who plot?
3. The Cult—Love—rockin’
4. Van Morrisson- Philospohers Stone—lots of good unreleased stuff and alternate takes great version of wonderful remark

Books

1. War and Peace--excellent

2. Simon schama’s history of Britain Vols 1-3—very subjective general history--- really good on history of reform movements/ideas so 2&3 best. good contrast with Cyril Falls history of ulster I read just before, which as you might guess, was not the most liberal book I’ve ever read!

3. Julian Barnes arthur and george. Juilian Barnes writing about conan Doyle? How could I not love it!

4. Clom toibin—the heather Blazing—slight but top stuff

5. Stuart Maconie Cider with roadies---indulgent tales from days when I bought NME every Thursday. Would also recommend Andrew Collin’s Where did it all go right?

Missed out TV:

Nothing stands out bar reality TV shows I like them.

What time is it? Its CHICO time!

Films

Rarely went to the cinema this year and generally can’t remember the names of the films we did see—was Vanity Fair released this year? If so it was a passable attempt at turning a wonderful book into a pop video. But still worth watching.

Did get an Alsitair Sim double DVD and a Will Hay box set this year. Top class!
